Motion guides
In this tutorial you will learn how to use the motion guide in Flash. This is a great tool when you need an object to follow any custom path you draw.
Step 1 : Setup your stage
- Create a new flash document and change the dimensions of the stage to 250 px by 250 px for better viewing.
- Select the Oval Tool and choose any color and to make things easier don't use an outline. Then draw a circle anywhere on the stage.
- Click frame 25 then hit F6 on your keyboard to insert a keyframe. Now with frame 25 still selected go to to the properties window at the bottom and select motion in the drop down menu. Then right click any frame in the middle of frame 1 and frame 25 and click create motion tween.

Step 2 : Creating the motion guide
- Right click your layer and then choose add motion guide.

- Select the Pencil Tool and then click on the 1st frame of your motion guide layer. Now draw anything on your stage.

- Click frame 25 of your motion guide layer and add a keyframe.
- Now select frame 1 of your layer (not the motion guide layer) and drag the circle you made to one end of the line you drew. Then select frame 25 and move the circle to the other end of the point you made. You will notice that the middle of the circle will snap to the end of the line. Look at the image below how that little black circle sticks to the point. I am dragging the circle (holding down the mouse bottom) to the end of the line.

Now test the movie and see how the red circle follows the path.
